Fighting game crossovers are very much in fashion these days so it’s no surprise that another of Namco’s fighting series would follow suit. A new trailer of Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive 5 has revealed that Akira of Virtua Fighter fame is to appear.

Former Team Ninja leader Tomonobu Itagaki is a big fan of Sega’s fighting series and credited it as an inspiration for Dead Or Alive. Both series feature free 8-way run movement and a 3-button fighting system.

Elsewhere in the trailer you can see Dead Or Alive regulars Kasumi and Ayane remodeled with more realistic faces as opposed to the exaggerated anime style of previous games.

Tecmo Koei Europe has confirmed today that Dead Or Alive 5 is due for a release in September. It is not yet known if any other Sega characters are set to crossover.
