It appears back in late 2011, Sony filed a patent for a Kinect style device. This has been revealed by gaming site Kotaku
The patent describes a “user-driven three-dimensional interactive gaming environment” created by plugging a camera into a PlayStation that could read player positioning and movement.
The patent was filed by Sony research and development smart-guy Dr. Richard Marks (creator of EyeToy and PlayStation Move) who has previously stated that both Kinect and EyeToy are limited in comparison to the PlayStation Move, further commenting that he was convinced that gamers – and games designers – can achieve more with a controller in their hands.
Could we be seeing a hybrid of both the Kinect and Move? With the combination of body tracking and a physical controller in your hand it seems like this would be the next logical step. If Sony are up to something then maybe we’ll see something at E3. Stay tuned.

No idea why Sony didn’t do this in the first place lol. Sure the Move fits in with the Wii market now they wanna take Microsoft’s. Best of both worlds
