Shenmue I & II HD Remakes Already Done?

Published on March 16, 2012 by

Yesterday we reported the possibility of a Shenmue HD update thanks to a suggestion or two from Sega’s brand manager Ben Harborne. Well today we have even more hints indicating we will could in fact be seeing Ryo soon.

Getting the first Shenmue would be great. Getting both would be fantastic!

Gamerzines spoke with an anonymous tipster with ties to SEGA, confirming that remakes of both the original, and it’s sequel are ready and waiting.”Shenmue HD is real (and has been) finished for well over a year,” the source said. “As is Shenmue II HD.”

So why is SEGA keeping these from release? Apparently it’s because they are waiting until the company has a clearer idea on what the future for this franchise is.

With Dreamcast favourites like Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and the soon to be released Jet Set Radio all making their HD debut, it wouldn’t be surprising if Shenmue was the next to make the jump. Fingers crossed we’ll hear more from SEGA soon.
