Japanese developer Platinum Games has asked fans to continue supporting Anarchy Reigns despite a huge delay in release.
Last night Sega announced that Anarchy Reigns’ European and US release had been pushed back to the first quarter of 2013. When answering a question asked by an eager fan, SEGA tweeted back, “The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated. We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013.” The game was originally planned for a release next month.
In response to this news, Platinum chief Atsushi Inaba took the chance to offer his view on the delay, “Today’s Q1 2013 release news was the first we’d heard of it. Even if we wanted to, we can’t comment as we’re (still) in the dark officially.” he tweeted.
“First of all, we are done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns. The delay is not due to further development on the game.” he added. It also appears Japan will receive the game without delay, “There’s some concern that this will push back the Japanese release date. It will not. The game will be released in Japan on July 5, 2012.”
“Finally, I want to sincerely apologize to all the fans worldwide for all the confusion this situation has caused.” he continued, “Even though we are the game’s developers, we can only do so much about this…”
He finished by saying, “However, we hope you can continue to support Anarchy Reigns and look forward to playing it with us in the future. Thank you.”
Sega has been restructuring its Western business to focus on key IPs leading many to believe Anarchy Reigns may have been cancelled with a lack of presence at E3 only heightening these fears. However it seems the game is still on its way, just a lot later than expected. Hopefully we’ll hear more from SEGA on the situation soon.
