Mario turns greedy in his hunt for golden coins

Nintendo have today released some new artwork for upcoming platformer New Super Mario Bros 2. Included in the bunch are the already known gold goomba, gold blocks, raccoon Mario and Luigi himself, however there are a few new reveals here too including the return of the mini mushroom and mega mushroom. We also see a golden mushroom, flower and striped raccoon leaf transforming Mario into the screen you see above. We know the golden flower allows Mario to turn enemies and blocks into coins with his golden fireballs, however what abilities will this give the portly plumber?

New Super Mario Bros 2 will see Mario take a greedier approach to platforming as a big focus has this time been put on collecting coins. Lots of them. At this year’s E3 I got the chance to try out three stages, collecting near the four digit region from each alone! The game will also feature a fully co-operative adventure.

New Super Mario Bros 2 is out for 3DS August 17th.
