Metroid fans out there may be interested to hear a superstar gamer out there has managed to dig up some interesting pieces of old concept art that suggests a stylised form of Metroid may have been in the pipeline at some point.
As part of an ongoing quest to uncover as much behind-the-scenes info about the Metroid games, NeoGaf forum member Mama Robotnic found artwork from portfolios of former staff members of Nintendo Software Technology Studio in Washington.
The art shows off some very cartoon-like versions of Samus and the Space Pirates. It looks odd seeing the characters like this, but its also truly awesome at the same time. Now every game goes through a concept art phase and these could easily be initial designs for Metroid Prime Hunters (which the developer was responsible for). However in a more interesting scenario, these could be pieces of art for a cancelled title. Maybe Metroid Dread? Or something entirely new altogether?
It is genuinely interesting to wonder just what was planned for these designs. It’s just a shame we’ll likely never find out the truth behind them and left speculating.
