We at FanCensus are big fans of Slender. Not only is it one of the most terrifying games we’ve ever had the chance to play, but the fact it’s created by a single guy makes it all the more impressive. As some of you may know however, a group of gamers are currently working on recreating the game with the Source engine in order to produce what they hope to be the ultimate Slender experience.
“Slender: Source is a co-op/horror mod based off of the legend of the Slenderman which is a mythical creature often depicted as a tall, thin figure wearing a black suit and a blank face. Players must work together to collect a certain amount of creepy dolls all while trying to avoid the abomination that is the Slenderman. The kick? No weapons” reads the site.
Whereas the original was a single player experience, the Source version allows up to four players to work together at once. Will this limit the fear factor? Unlikely considering you’ll still be playing alone at your computer. A few screens have popped up showing off the two stages featured in the game (the standard wooded area from the original game and an abandoned hospital) with six more promised after its initial release.
Now we finally have our first glimpse at the Slenderman himself. While the original model was still enough to get the heart racing, it wasn’t the best design and had plenty of room for improvement. The Source version however appears to be step in the right direction and truly something to be feared.
Slender Source is planned for a release in the first quarter of 2013 with a beta out beforehand. We’re excited… or is that terrified, either way we’ll be sure to have more info on this mod as we get it.
